I think bartending made me a better songwriter before I really knew it was happening.
When you serve people long enough, you start to notice small things about people. Not just their drink orders, who tips the best, or what…
I grew up as the middle child of a single mom in a little community called Cross Roads. It’s kind of a blink and you’ll miss it type town without even a post office. I spent most of my time with my grandparents while she worked multiple jobs to help support us. Mending the fences, watching old westerns, riding horses, everything you can think of that was country- you bet me and my siblings did it.
My grandpa was a truck driver, my grandma one of the first PE Coaches in the state so I grew up knowing hard work and looking up to these people who were that personified. So out of high school while working on my degree in Music with a specialty in voice (A classical trained singer? Yes), I would work up to three jobs. And I continue to do so in order to get my music out to yall.
Growing up I had a happy childhood- except for the bullying. I was always the one that didn’t want anyone to sit alone. I didn’t want anyone to not have at least one friend. That made me a target sometimes. When the end of middle school hit it started really heavy, continued through high school and my senior year I felt like dying. I didn’t want to be in school, I didn’t want anything to do with life.
From church hurt to school- the only thing I had was music.
I’ve always written music, one of my earliest memories of songwriting was in fifth grade. When I had these huge feelings of pain, despair, and like my own mind was a dark cage, I would write.
That’s where my music comes from. The girl who needed these songs is still here. She’s still present. But these songs helped me heal.
And I hope it helps you too.
My music is my journal, and I want to share it in hopes it’ll be a help to at least one lonely person out there.
